Duck Feathers & Peony, 2021 For some of my images I work with local flower farmers for the incredible variety that can be grown in our Ontario climate. This image, however, has flowers from my garden and my neighbors. The radishes still have dirt on them from when I pulled them out. The little blue cups are from my grandmother. The sheen on the gold cloth reminds me of the carefully rendered paintings of Gerard ter Borch (Zwolle, 1617) a Dutch golden age painter. The feathers are probably from a mallard duck and had to be placed exactly at the right angle to capture the blue iridescence.
