Honey & Anemone
This artwork was recently added to the TD Bank Art Collection. The dahlias were grown by a Toronto flower farmer who borrows sunny yards in a west-end neighborhood to grow her crop. This mutually beneficial relationship — the gardener harvests and sells the flowers, and the homeowner enjoys a beautiful garden — echoes the reciprocal partnership between bees and flowers. In this composition, numerous bees appear alongside the blooms, reminding us of the one thing they are best known for: honey.
Rendered against a deep black background and illuminated by dramatic natural light, the flowers take on a sculptural presence. The contrast isolates each petal and bee, emphasizing texture, color and form while lending the image an intimate, almost still-life quality. The interplay of cultivated urban agriculture, pollinators at work, and carefully controlled lighting creates a layered narrative about cooperation, care, and the small, productive ecosystems that sustain city life. This piece remains a favorite in my portfolio for its visual impact and its quiet celebration of those everyday partnerships that both nourish and beautify our communities.
Printed to order and shipped unframed in rigid mailing tube. Ink Jet printed on high quality Hahnemuehle archival art paper with a half inch, white border.
